Mars Hill, N.C. – Looking to avenge to early season losses to Mars Hill College the North Greenville softball team went on the road for a doubleheader against the Lions. The Lady Crusaders were unable to come home with any wins, dropping the doubleheader 8-2 and 2-0.
The Lady Crusaders and Lady Lions were tied with two runs apiece until Mars Hill scored one run in the fifth inning to take the lead and five runs in the sixth to put the game away.
Taylor Roof (3-5) started game one and picked up the loss as she threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking out three batters. Laura Hopper pitched the final 2/3 inning and allowed one hit and striking out one.
At the plate, Courtney Campbell was 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Lady Crusaders, while Sarah Griffith was 1-for-2 with a double.
In game two Mars Hill put up two runs in the first inning and silenced the North Greenville offense for the remainder of the game to pick up the victory.
Campbell (0-3) was on the mound to begin game two but lasted just three innings. She allowed two runs on seven hits. Kimberly Robertson pitched the final three innings and allowed five hits while striking out two batters.
Emily Campbell and Karli Taylor led the offense as each player finished the day 1-for-3 with a double.
The Lady Crusaders (4-10) will be in action again on Saturday, March 12 when they host St. Andrews College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Tigerville.
