Gaffney, S.C. – The North Greenville softball team competed in a tournament at Limestone College on Saturday, losing to University of California (PA) 4-2 in eight innings but defeating University of Charleston 4-3 in eight innings.
In game one, California (PA) scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead until North Greenville scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings to send the game into extra innings. California (PA) sealed the victory with two runs in the top of the eighth, while holding the Lady Crusaders scoreless in the bottom of the inning.
Taylor Roof pitched a complete game for North Greenville, allowing four runs (one earned) on nine hits while striking out five.
At the plate, Kimberly Robertson led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Laura Hopper also finished the game 2-for-4, while Kansas Wofford and Emily Campbell each scored a run in the game.
North Greenville scored runs in the first, second, seventh and eighth innings to claim a one-run victory over University of Charleston.
Hopper started on the mound for North Greenville, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on six hits.
Courtney Campbell pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief until Roof (3-4) picked up the win, pitching two innings of scoreless softball and striking out four batters.
Wofford had a strong second game as she finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and an RBI while scoring two runs. Karli Taylor had her best game of the season finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Hopper was also 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
The Lady Crusaders (4-8) will be on the road once again as they travel to Mars Hill, N.C. to take on Mars Hill College in a double header on Wednesday, March 2 beginning at 2 p.m.
