Tigerville, S.C. - The North Greenville softball team picked up its first two victories of the season after defeating Southern Wesleyan University in a double header 8-1 and 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
"The pitchers did hit their spots and the defense played well. We hit five home runs and were able to get on base," said head coach Sarah Hall. "It was great to see all of our hard work turn into positive results."
Taylor Roof was the star of game one as she pitched a complete game one-hitter, allowing only one run and striking out 10 batters for her first win of 2011. At the plate, Roof was a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. She also scored two runs in the game.
Also providing offensive power for the Lady Crusaders was Courtney Campbell who finished the game 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Sarah Griffith was 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI. Kansas Wofford contributed to the effort, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
In game two the Lady Crusaders received another strong pitching performance as Kimberly Robertson picked her fist win of the season. Robertson pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits while recording four strikeouts.
At the plate North Greenville was led by Wofford who finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and one RBI. Robertson also connected on a home run and finished the day 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lady Crusaders will have some time off before they host Carson-Newman on Feb. 21 in Tigerville. The double header is set to being at 2 p.m.
