KLUTCH HITTING LEADS CRUSADERS PAST BREVARD IN TWO GAME SWEEP

Tigerville, S.C.—Sophomore hurler/first baseman Taylor Roof racked up five RBI’s  and a three run homer while picking up a game two win leading the North Greenville Crusaders (20-19) past the Brevard College Tornadoes 4-3 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

The Crusaders scored first in game one taking the lead 1-0 in the second inning. By the sixth inning, Brevard would plate three runs to go up 3-1. North Greenville scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Tornado lead to one.
With two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Allison Bailey came up with a clutch base hit into right field scoring two runs and giving North Greenville a game one walk off win.
Taylor Roof led the charge in game one offensively going 2-3 with two RBI’s. Kimberly Robertson was also productive going 2-3 with a run score. Tia LaFreniere was also 2-3. Kristyn Smith got the start for NGU pitching 5.2 innings giving up three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts. Laura Hopper was credited with the win after coming on in relief in the sixth inning. Hopper pitched one inning giving up a hit and registering one strikeout.
The Lady Crusaders got even more “Offensive” in game two scoring nine runs on 12 hits and forcing the game to be called in six innings due to the NCAA imposed eight run rule. The Tornadoes took an early one run lead in the first inning but the Crusaders responded in the second with four runs on only two hits.
NGU would hold the Tornadoes scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Lady Crusaders kept pressure on however scoring two more runs in the fifth inning. North Greenville headed into the sixth inning with a 5 run rule. With two runners on base, Taylor Roof forced an early conclusion with a three run blast to left center field.
Roof also got credit for the win pitching the full six innings and giving up a single run on four hits with three strikeouts. Offensively she was 3-4 with three RBI’s three runs scored and a home run. Tia LaFreniere and Kimberly Robertson also had a solid game two. LaFreniere was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Robertson was 3-3 with three runs scored.
The Lady Crusaders will take the field again Saturday with a double header at Truett McConnell.
