Game Two Box
Greenville, Tn.—The North Greenville Softball Team (18-15) wrapped up a four game road swing in Tennessee yesterday splitting a double header with Tusculum College winning the first game 5-3 and dropping the second game 5-1.
Tusculum held a one run lead until the fifth inning when North Greenville scored three runs on four hits to take the lead. Two of the three runs were scored on a Kansas Wofford triple that plated Shealy Broome, and Taylor Roof. Wofford would later score on a Hope Brewer single increasing NGU’s lead to three runs.
The Pioneers tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth. North Greenville took the lead again in the sixth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh. Head coach Sarah Hall employed a pitching by committee strategy in game one Saturday with three different players taking the mound.
Freshman Laura Hopper got the start for the Crusaders pitching one and a third innings giving up no runs on one hit. Kristyn Smith pitched two and a third innings giving up one run on two hits. Smith struck out four and allowed four walks. Kimberly Robertson was brought in to close the game. Robertson pitched three and one thirds innings giving up two runs on two hits and registering two strike outs.
Offensively the Crusaders were led by freshman Kansas Wofford who was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Taylor Roof also had a multi hit game going 2-3 with a run scored.
In game two the Crusaders lone run came in the fifth inning when Tia LaFreniere scored on a Shealy Broome single. Broome was 2-3 in game two with the teams only RBI. Kansas Wofford had another solid performance from the plate in game two going 2-4. Courtney Campbell also had multiple hits in game two. Campbell was 2-3 with a double.
