CRUSADERS STUMBLE IN TOUGH SERIES AT CARSON NEWMAN

Game Two Box Jefferson City, Tn.—The North Greenville Softball Team (17-12)traveled to Carson Newman College for a weekend double-header against the Eagles falling a run shy in game one losing 5-4 and dropping the second game 5-0. The Crusaders struck first scoring 2 runs in the fourth inning.

Carson Newman answered quickly scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fourth to take the lead. The Eagles padded their lead with two runs in the fifth inning. NGU Trailed 5-3 heading into the seventh inning and looked to tie the game but the Crusaders were held to just two runs. On the mound for North Greenville in game one was freshman Laura Hopper. Hopper pitched four innings giving up five runs on seven hits. She issued three walks and struck out three batters. Offensively NGU was led by Allison Bailey who was 2-3 with a run scored. Karli Taylor was 1-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored. The Lady Crusaders were held to just three hits in the second game. Hope Brewer and Karli Taylor were both 1-3 and Courtney Campbell was 1-2. Kristyn Smith pitched all six innings for North Greenville in the second game giving up five runs on five hits. Smith Struck out four batters and walked 2. The Crusaders next double header will be on March 30th against Milligan college which is also located in Tennessee.
