TIgerville, S.C.—The North Greenville softball team celebrated St. Patrick’s day with a two game sweep of Piedmont college to the tune of a 2-0 win in the first game and a 7-4 win in the second game.
The Crusaders jumped out to a quick one run lead in the first inning when Hope Brewer scored on a groundball to the infield. Freshman Kansas Wofford added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when she smashed a solo homerun to left center field.
Starting pitcher Krystin Smith held the Piedmont offense at bay until the seventh inning after walking the bases loaded with two outs. For the game Smith allowed no runs on three hits with three walks and seven strike outs. Kimberly Robertson was brought on in the top of the seventh to record the last out picking up the save.
Offensive leaders for NGU in the first game were Kansas Wofford who was 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI and Taylor Roof who was 1-2.
Piedmont jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning of game two scoring two runs. North Greenville’s Kansas Wofford tied the game at two in the bottom half of the first inning. With one swing of her bat Wofford cracked a two run home run over the left field fence scoring Hope Brewer.
The two clubs traded runs again in the third inning scoring two runs apiece leaving the game deadlocked at four. The NGU offense was not done yet however. The Lady Crusaders scored three more runs in the fifth inning off back to back homeruns. Allison Bailey drove a two run homer over the left center field fence scoring hope brewer. The next batter Taylor Roof ripped a line drive down the third base line which cleared the fence.
With the two wins, North Greenville moves to 13-10 on the season earning the team a three game win streak. The Lady Crusaders will take the field again March 22nd at Limestone College.
