CRUSADER SOFTBALL KEEPS THE BALL ROLLING WITH SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

Gaffney, S.C.— The NGU softball team traveled to Limestone College for an early season tournament and continued its hot streak beating West Virginia Wesleyan 4-1 and Alderson-Broaddus college 6-0.

Pitching for the Crusaders in the first game was Kirstyn Smith who went a full 7 innings giving up one earned run on 4 hits. She allowed 1 walk and struck out seven. Offensively NGU continued to provide run support for the pitching staff.
Kansas Wofford went 2-3 scoring a run and collecting an RBI. Also for the Crusaders Hope Brewer was 1-1 with a triple and an RBI and walked once. The big hitter of the day was Taylor Roof who was 3-3 with an RBI and a double.
In game 2 the Lady Crusaders began where they left in the first game. Pitcher Taylor Roof pitched 7 innings earning a one hit shut-out. She walked two and struck out eight in those seven innings of work. Offensively in the second game the Crusaders were led by Sarah Griffith who was 1-1 with 2 RBI’s and a double. Hope Brewer was 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Brewer also stole a base.
With the win the team moves to 6-0 on the season outscoring opponents 39-7 in the six games combined. The team will take the field again February 23 against Brevard College.
