NORTH GREENVILLE SOFTBALL REGISTERS SECOND SWEEP IN TWO DAYS

GAME TWO BOX   Tigerville, S.C.—Just four games into the season and the North Greenville softball (4-0) team is already proving its worth sweeping the Lees McRae in a mid-week double header 4-1 and 9-0.

Taylor Roof took the mound for the Ladies in the first game pitching a complete 7 innings giving up 1 run on two hits. Roof allowed three walks but struck out five. The Lees McRae run came on a homerun in the top of the 7th.
Offensively the Crusaders waited until the fourth inning strike. With two runners on freshman Courney Campbell came on to pinch hit and would deliver with a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Karli Taylor. Next up was right fielder Shealy Broome who singled up the middle which scored Taylor Roof.
North Greenville scored added two more runs in the sixth inning on a Marielena Santos single and a Kansas Wofford single. Offensive leaders for NGU in the first game were Taylor Roof who went 3-3 and scored a run, and Shealy Broome who was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Marielena Santos, Kansas Wofford, and Courtney Campbell also accounted for an RBI a piece.
Ace right hander Kristyn Smith took the mound in the second game and run support for the hurler would not be an issue. The Crusaders scored nine runs in five innings forcing the game to be called due to the run rule. In five innings, Smith gave up two hits and struck out seven.
The North Greenville bats offered run support early in the game. After a one run first inning, the Lady Crusaders opened the flood gates in the second scoring four runs on six hits. NGU went scoreless for the next two innings before platting five runs in the fifth. Among the run scoring hits in the fifth was a three run home run from first baseman Taylor Roof.
Offensive leaders for the second game were Hope Brewer who was 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, Allison Bailey who was also 3-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored, and Taylor Roof who was 2-3 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s.
Head coach Sarah Hall and her Crusaders will put their 4-0 record on the line again on Saturday February 20th, on the road in a tournament in Gaffney, South Carolina at Limestone College. The tournament begins at 11:30 am.
