TIGERVILLE, SC--North Greenville University split a doubleheader with Brevard College Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders won the front end 4-3, while falling in the night-cap 2-1. NGU is now 17-25 on the season.
Game 1: NGU 4, BC 3
Kristyn Smith struck out five Tornados in seven innings of work in picking up the win for the Crusaders. Jennifer Gift gave up eight hits, while striking out seven in the loss for Brevard.
NGU lit up the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth as Allison Bailey hit a solo home run to give NGU a 1-0 lead.
Amber Clontz tied the game in the top of the fifth with a solo homer of her own. Then in the sixth inning, Clontz gave Brevard a 3-1 advantage with a two-run home run.
The Crusaders rallied in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring one run in each. Bailey scored in the sixth on a sacrifice by Hope Brewer. Then, Bailey doubled in Lindsey Eargle for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Bailey led NGU at the plate, batting 3-for-3, including two runs scored, two RBI, and one home run.
Clontz led BC, hitting 2-for-3, including two home runs.
Game 2: BC 2, NGU 1
Aimee Rogers picked up the win for Brevard in game two, giving up nine hits in seven innings of work. Krista Yeoman gave up eight hits in the loss for NGU.
Brevard took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning as Jennifer Brown singled in Beth Brooker.
NGU tied the game in the sixth inning when Shealy Broome singled in Hope Brewer.
However, Lindsey Morgan singled in Clontz for the go-ahead run for the Tornados in the top of the seventh inning.
Brown led Brevard from the plate, batting 3-for-3 with one RBI. Broome paced the Crusaders with two hits and one RBI.
