CLINTON, SC--Presbyterian College swept North Greenville University in an afternoon doubleheader Saturday. The Blue Hose took game one 10-1, while winning the second 5-2. Presbyterian improves to 3-7 on the season, while North Greenville falls to 2-7.
Game 1: PC 10, NGU 1
Mary Gordon struck out five batters and gave up eight hits in six innings of work to pick up the win for PC. Kristyn Smith struck out three batters, but gave up six hits and five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss for NGU.
North Greenville took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning as Hope Brewer scored on an error by the PC shortstop.
PC scored four runs in the bottom of the innings and never looked back. The Blue Hose added two runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to win 10-1.
Ashley Ford went 2 for 4 with four RBI to lead PC.
Allison Bailey batted 3 for 3 to lead the Crusaders.
Game 2: PC 5, NGU 2
Paige Cassady struck out four batters and gave up six hits and one earned run to pick up the win for PC. Smith, again, took the loss for the Crusaders, striking out four batters in six innings of work.
North Greenville took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Lindsey Eargle scored on a Krista Yeoman ground out to the shortstop. Then, Bailey scored on an error by the thirdbaseman.
PC answered with one run in the bottom of the inning as Laura Tate scored on an Ashley Ford single to left field.
A Crusaders error cost them a run in the second inning as PC tied the game 2-2. The Blue Hose went ahead for good in the sixth inning when Kayla Handy scored on another NGU error. Taylor Staten and Erin Stewart also scored for PC in the sixth.
North Greenville will be back in action Tuesday afternoon at home versus Milligan College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
