Crusader softball sweeps Piedmont in dramatic fashion
Tia Lafrieniere hits game-winning single in Game 2

TIGERVILLE, SC- Tia Lafrieniere crushed a single to left field to score Christina Shin in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel North Greenville to a 6-5 victory over Piedmont College in game two of an afternoon doubleheader. The Crusaders won the first game 11-3 in five innings. North Greenville improves to 7-23 on the season.

GAME ONE: NGU 11 PC 3

Katie Eargle pitched five innings, giving up only two hits and striking out three batters to pick up the win for the Crusaders. Michelle Broderick took the loss for Piedmont.

North Greenville ripped 13 hits in the game. Krista Yeoman led the Crusaders, batting 3 for 3, including a single, a double, and a triple. Yeoman also drove in one run and scored one run. Shannon Rainey went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Allison Bailey went 2 for 3 and scored a run. Hope Brewer drove in three runs and Brandy Jackson plated two. Christina Shin, Lindsey Eargle, and Shealy Broome each had one hit with an RBI.

Broderick led the Lions, batting 1 for 2 with a home run. Megan Day had Piedmont's only other hit.

Piedmont scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but North Greenville came back and scored three in the second inning, two in the fourth, and a season-high six in the fifth inning. The eight-run rule ended the game after five innings.

GAME TWO: NGU 6 PC 5

Ashley Warlick pitched seven innings, givin gup seven hits and striking out five to pick up the win for NGU. Laura Puckett gave up seven hits and struck out two in the loss.

Down 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh North Greenville mounted a comeback. Bridget Watson reached first base on a fielder's choice while Broome is thrown out at second base. Brewer singled followed by Jackson reaching on an error by the shortstop to load the bases. Shin gets hit by a pitch to bring one run across the plate and make the score 5-3. The next batter, Bailey, walks to plate Brewer and cut the lead to one run. Yeoman, then, reached on a fielder's choice to score Jackson to tie the game. Then, Lafrieniere singles in Shin to win the game for the Crusaders.

Shin and Yeoman both had two RBI to pace NGU.

Emily Maxey batted 4 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Lady Lions.

North Greenville will be back in action Monday at Newberry College at 2:00 p.m.
