Mars Hill takes two over Crusaders in softball

MARS HILL, NC - Mars Hill College swept a doubleheader from North Greenville University Tuesday afternoon at Ponder Park. The Lions took game one 9-1 and then won game two 4-1. The Lions improved to 25-11 on the season while the Crusaders fell to 5-21 overall.

Game 1: MHC 9, NGU 1
MHC belted out 14 hits in the first game to win by an eight-run margin. Ashley Harber (Goose Creek, SC) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to propel the Lions to the win. There were no outs when Harber hit her game ending homerun. The Lions scored in five of the six innings.

Kristina Osborn (Birmingham, AL) and Christa Fullwood (Wilmington, NC) each tallied three hits in the win. All three of Osborn's hits were doubles. Tiffany Farthing (Kure Beach, NC) threw a complete game scattering five hits while striking out eight and allowing just a single run to improve her season record to 11-6.

Allison Bailey led NGU with two hits. Ashley Warlick took the loss (2-10) on the mound for the Crusaders.

Game 2: MHC 4, NGU 1
The Lions scored all four of their runs in their opening bat on just a single hit. The only hit in the inning was another double by Osborn, her fourth on the day.

NGU got on the board in the top of the seventh inning when Shealy Broome crossed the plate on a single by Christina Shin. Shin was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Katie Eargle took the loss (1-9) for NGU on the mound.

Osborn went 2-for-3 in game two with a double and a run scored. Osborn went 5-for-7 at the plate in both contests combined. Paige Brantley (Raleigh, NC) picked up her sixth win (6-4) throwing a complete game allowing just three hits.

NGU will be back in action Thursday at home as the Crusaders host Pfeiffer at 2:00 p.m.
