TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University lost both ends of a doubleheader versus Newberry College Monday afternoon in NCAA Division II softball action. The Indians won the first game 1-0 and took the second game 3-1. Newberry improves to 12-9-1 on the season, while North Greenville falls to 3-15.
Kristen Hicks pitched four and one third innings, giving up five hits and striking out one to pick up the win for Newberry. Ashley Warlick gave up six hits and struck out six in the loss.
Newberry scored the only run of the ballgame in the fourth inning as Kat Hammond singled in Sara Powell.
North Greenville threatened in the fifth inning with bases loaded with one out, but Newberry managed to get out of the inning unscathed. NGU stranded eight runners in the game.
Hammond went 2 for 3 to lead Newberry, while Tia LaFrieniere and Lindsey Eargle each had two hits for the Crusaders.
Christina Kirby pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out two in the win. Audrey Christmas gave up eight hits and struck out two in the loss.
The Indians scored two runs in the first inning. Powell singled to centerfield to plate Ginna Dean. Then, Courtney Lindler hit a double to drive in Hammond.
North Greenville answered with one run in the third inning as Christina Shin reached on an erroe and Bridget Watson scored.
Newberry added one run in the sixth inning as Lindler scored on a throwing error.
Hammond, Kirby, and Lindler each went 2 for 3 to lead the Indians. Allison Bailey, Lindsey Eargle, and Shannon Rainey each had hits for North Greenville.
