Softball picks up first win; splits with Limestone

GAFFNEY, SC- North Greenville University splits its doubleheader at Limestone College Thursday afternoon to pick up its first win of the season. The Crusaders won the first game 7-5 in eight innings, while the Saints took the second game 3-0.

In game one, NGU took advantage of several Limestone errors in the first inning to take an early 4-1 lead. The Crusaders extended the lead to 5-1 in the third inning. The Saints rallied in the sixth and seventh inning, cutting the lead to 5-3 in the sixth and tying the game in 5-5 in the seventh. Bridget Watson singled in two runs in the eighth inning to give the Crusaders the victory.

Ashley Warlick, who struck out nine, picked up the win for NGU, as Lisa DeMarr took the loss for LC.

In game two, Saints pitcher Jennifer Casement pitched a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts. The Saints scored one run in the fourth and two in the sixth.

North Greenville will host Mars Hill on Saturday with the first pitch being thrown out at 1:00 p.m.
