Eagles take two from Crusaders
Amanda McElveen led NGU with four hits Friday

TIGERVILLE, SC- Carson-Newman College swept a doubleheader Friday afternoon at North Greenville University. The Eagles won Game One 6-2, while taking Game Two 10-3. The Crusaders fall to 0-6 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 6-0.

GAME ONE

North Greenville and Carson-Newman engaged in a defensive duel for three innings before the Eagles ripped off three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hillary Hammond doubled in Mandy Stevens and Stephanie Templeton. Later in the inning, Sarah Little doubled in Hammond to give the Eagles an early 3-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Eagles added to their lead when Stevens hit a three-run home run. Templeton and Jessie Howard scored on the play.

North Greenville scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tia Lafrieniere scored on a walked batter. Then, Bridget Watson scored on a catcher interference play to make the score its final of 6-2.

Templeton won the game for Carson-Newman, while Ashley Warlick took the loss for the Crusaders.

GAME TWO

In game two, Carson-Newman took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Whitney Hickam home run. The second inning proved to be a huge inning for the Eagles as they scored six runs. Hammond tripled in two runs. Katie Speaks singled in Hammond. Whitney Durham knocked in Howard with a triple to make the score 5-0. Then, Hickam homered again to make the score 7-0.

North Greenville scored two runs in the third inning. Amanda McElveen knocked in Krysta Laird and Lindsey Eargle.

In the fourth inning, Amber Palmer scored on a sacrifice fly by Howard.

North Greenville added one more run in the sixth inning as Allison Bailey scored on an error by the pitcher.

Carson-Newman added two runs in the top of the seventh as Speaks doubled in Lora Daniel and Palmer scored on a passed ball and error by the catcher.

Jessie Armstrong won the game for the Eagles, while Audrey Christmas took the loss for NGU.

North Greenville will be back in action Saturday afternoon as the host Milligan College at 1:00 p.m. for a doubleheader.
