Softball splits with Presbyterian

TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University split a doubleheader with Presbyterian College Thursday afternoon in Tigerville. The Blue Hose took the first game 7-4, but North Greenville came back to win the second 5-4.

Game 1

Presbyterian scored first when Kellyn Henderson scored on an error. North Greenville tied it up in the second inning on a Lua Greene single that brought Jordan Brock home.

Presbyterian had a big third inning, scoring four runs. First, another Crusader error allowed Shannon Vining to score. Then, Laura Tate hit a 3 RBI double to give the Blue Hose a 5-1 advantage.

North Greenville mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emily Queen singled home Casey Smith. Then, Erika Sineath hit a 2 RBI double to bring Charissa Kee and Holly Lester across the plate to make the score 5-4.

PC added two more runs in the seventh to seal the win. Megan Clark scored on a passed ball, and then Tate singled home Amber Patterson.

Samantha Slater picked up the win for Presbyterian.

Game 2

Presbyterian again lit up the scoreboard first in the second game. Haley Brooks scored on an infield error by the Crusaders in the top of the third inning. North Greenville pulled even in the bottom of the third when a passed ball allowed Krista Yeoman to cross the plate.

Each team scored two runs in the fourth inning. In the top half of the inning, Presbyterian scored on two errors. North Greenville evened things after Queen hit an RBI triple, and then scored on a fly to centerfield.

The Crusaders added a run in the sixth inning. Lester hit a home run to give North Greenville a 4-3 advantage. Presbyterian evened things up in the top of the seventh. Olivia Hazel scored on an infield error by the Crusaders.

North Greenville won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Laura McMahan scored the winning run on a passed ball by the Blue Hose.

Ashley Warlick was the winning pitcher for the Crusaders.

North Greenville will be back in action Saturday as they participate in a tournament at USC-Upstate.
