The North Greenville Trailblazers and the Francis Marion Patriots split a doubleheader to begin their conference series this afternoon in Florence, South Carolina. Things started with a one-sided nine inning game that went in favor of North Greenville with a score of 17-4. However, the Patriots would bounce back in game two, pulling away throughout the game to win it 9-2. NGU pulled away early on game one, scoring three runs in the 1st and two runs in the 2nd before FMU would put their first run on the board in the bottom of the 2nd. After three scoreless innings, North Greenville would put together the big inning, scoring eight runs. Following a three run inning by Francis Marion in the 7th, North Greenville would follow up with four runs to cap off the scoring.
Bennett Roemer took the win to improve his season record to 4-0. Game two went the other way as Francis Marion would lead early with a run in the 1st and another in the 2nd before NGU got on the board with a run in the 3rd. FMU pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Patriots would put the game away in the 5th with a four-run inning. NGU would score the final run of the game in the 7th, but FMU would comfortably hang on for the win.
Matty Brown, who pitched the first 4.1 innings of the game, was charged with the loss.
Landon Peavy put together a solid afternoon, finishing the day with 6 hits, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and 2 stolen bases.
Thomas Powell posted 3 hits, 2 runs, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Bennett Roemer pitched 5.0 solid innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.
NGU and Francis Marion will wrap up the series with game three tomorrow in Florence, South Carolina.
