Penalty Kicks Send North Greenville to Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals

The North Greenville Trailblazers advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Tournament as a 1-1 draw ended with NGU advancing on penalty kicks against the Valkyries of Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Converse opened the scoring in the 61st minute when Hayleigh Winkler found the net off an assist from Sierra Criner. North Greenville responded just over two minutes later as Isabella Gyurich scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Valerie Hernandez to even the match.

Neither team found the back of the net during the remainder of regulation or the two overtime periods, sending the contest to a penalty shootout.

After missing their opening attempt, the Trailblazers converted four consecutive penalty kicks from Gyurich, Finley Lloyd, Parker Christmas and Hernandez. Converse missed the final attempt, sending North Greenville to the quarterfinals.

North Greenville outshot Converse 16-13, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Ana Maria Pinzon led the Trailblazers with five shots, while Pendergrass recorded three saves.

The victory sends ninth-seeded North Greenville into the Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinals against the Braves of UNC Pembroke on October 31st in Pembroke, North Carolina.
