Turnovers Costly as Trailblazers Fall to Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Trailblazers put up a competitive fight against a high-powered Belmont Abbey, but ultimately fell at Hayes Gymnasium with a final score of 55-40. Things began with a low-scoring 1st quarter, with Belmont Abbey ending the quarter with a six point lead. The offense was able to get going for both teams in the second quarter, with NGU outscoring BAC by one point to trail by just five going into halftime. The Crusaders pulled away throughout the third quarter, outscoring NGU by nine points to take a double-digit lead into the fourth. Belmont Abbey slowed down offensively in the fourth, but North Greenville was unable to close the deficit as BAC would comfortably hang on for the win. NGU finished the game with a .311 field goal percentage, struggling further from three point territory by making just two out of ten shots. Turnovers proved to be costly as well as twenty-two turnovers resulted in eighteen points for Belmont Abbey.

Amaijah Smith posted fourteen points and two rebounds. Maliyiah Mason recorded eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Grace Ikenegbu finished her afternoon with six points, six rebounds, and a steal.

NGU will face the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Saturday, February 8th at Hayes Gymnasium.
