NGU Falls to Hawaii to End Historic 2022 Season

Box Score Los Angeles, CA - North Greenville's 2022 season came to an end tonight at Pauley Pavilion as a high-powered Hawaii team proved to simply be too much to handle as the Rainbow Warriors would complete the 3-0 sweep. The Crusaders were able to keep up with Hawaii in each set early on, but the Rainbow Warriors would go on a run in the middle of all three sets that proved to be too much for North Greenville to make up. Overall, Hawaii would post an impressive .429 attack percentage while the Crusaders fought but struggled with a .062 percentage. Blocks told the story as UH led the count 19-8. The Warriors would jump out to a quick 3-0 lead to begin the opening set. NGU would finally get going and keep the deficit manageable until the Rainbow Warriors put together an 7-0 run to lead by ten. North Greenville responded with three in a row, but was otherwise unable to close the gap as Hawaii would comfortably take the 1st set 25-15. The Crusaders would take the first two points of set two. After the two teams would trade points early on, UH would begin to take over the set, scoring seven of eight to lead 13-7. NGU would hang in there, keeping the deficit to around six until the Rainbow Warriors put together four in a row to open up the lead to ten. North Greenville scored five of the next six points including blocks by Gregory Torres, Brandon Baker, and Michael de la Cruz, but the deficit would ultimately be too much to recover from as Hawaii would eventually score their final two points to win set two 25-17. The Crusaders also took the first two points to open up set three. UH would take five of the next six to lead by two. Both teams would spend some time exchanging points, but a 4-1 run by Hawaii opened up their lead to five. A big kill by Gregory Torres would end the Rainbow Warrior run, but North Greenville couldn't stop the momentum by Hawaii who would end the match on an 8-3 run to win the final set 25-16. NGU ends a season with an overall record of 21-6 as well as the Conference Carolinas's first ever NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship victory.
