NGU Falls Short to UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas Championship

Browns Summit, NC - The North Greenville Crusaders were unable to overcome an early deficit on a rainy afternoon at Macpherson Stadium at Bryan Park, ultimately falling to the Braves of UNC Pembroke with a final score of 3-1. UNCP posted a total of twenty-nine shots with thirteen on goal while the Crusaders finished with eighteen shots and seven on goal. The Braves were able to get on the board early in the 12th minute with a long free kick goal from near midfield. NGU would finish the half with eleven shots, but would trail by one at halftime. UNC Pembroke would add to the deficit with a goal that slipped by Samantha Montgomery just under a minute and a half into the second half. Nearly five minutes later, the Crusaders would get back into the fight with a goal off a corner kick by Dani Avelar that was assisted by Molly Platt. NGU would continue to fight, but an offensive attack twenty minutes later would result in an own goal to put the Braves up by two. The deficit would prove too much to overcome as the UNC Pembroke players would storm the field as the clock hit zero on NGU. North Greenville's 2022 season ends with a 13-4-1 overall record, which results in a .750 winning percentage, the program's highest-ever.
