NGU Wraps Up Conference Play With One-Sided Victory Over Erskine

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville finished up conference play with a 4-0 victory over the Flying Fleet of Erskine College at Pepsi Stadium. The Crusaders led at halftime 1-0 but connected for three goals in the second half including an own goal by Erskine. North GreenvilleĀ  NGU currently sits third in the Conference Carolinas standings with a second place finish still a possibility. The Crusaders are now 5-0-2 in their last seven matches.

Recap
  • After a calm start to the match, the Crusaders would get on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by Romee Contreras nearly twelve minutes into the match. The Crusaders would go on to lead the half in shots 8-4. Goalkeeper Lizzy Luzzi had an easy half as none of Erskine's shots were on goal. Two of North Greenville's shots resulted in saves.
  • NGU came out aggressive in the second half, posting the first three shots. In the 64th minute, Megan BiehlĀ would find the back of the net with an assist by Shelby Shepherd to put the Crusaders up 2-0. Less than a minute later, NGU would score again with a second goal by Romee Contreras and assists by Victoria Valentine and Megan Biehl. In the 78th minute, a free kick by Sarah Hazelwood slipped through the goalkeeper's hands and bounced off an Erskine defender for an own goal to increase the Crusader lead to four. The Crusaders went on to lead the second half in shots 9-4. Luzzi would record three saves in the half.
