Box Score Tigerville, SC - North Greenville ended a five-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. NGU dropped the opening set but bounced back to take the final three sets for the victory. Jackson Gilbert made his return from an injury, posting 4 kills. Cade McGee led the team with 11 kills while Brandon Baker led in total attacks with 28.
After a competitive start to the opening set, NGU took the first run by taking six straight points to lead 14-10. Belmont Abbey quickly recovered shortly after, scoring four consecutive points to tie up the set at 15-15. North Greenville led by two before BAC finished the set with the final six points to win it 25-21.
NGU dominated the opening half to set two, leading by as much as eight points with the score 12-4. It seemed the North Greenville would coast to an easy set win, but Belmont Abbey didn't go down without a fight. They put together an 8-1 run to trail by just four. The set would remain tight, but NGU was able to hang on to take the set win with a score of 25-21.
Belmont Abbey began the third set on a strong note, taking an early 7-2 lead. North Greenville would slowly but surely get back into the set and eventually even the score at 13-13. The remainder of the set would remain tight, but NGU would take the final three points of the set, winning it with a score of 25-23.
Set four would start off even, but North Greenville took the first run, scoring five straight points to take a 10-5 lead. After Belmont Abbey evened up the score at 15-15, NGU completely dominated the remainder of the set, scoring ten of the final eleven points to take the set 25-16 to win the match.
North Greenville will face the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus University on Friday, February 21st.
