Crusaders Come Up Short Against Pioneers

Tigerville, SC - Karen Donehew posted her second straight double-double as the North Greenville Crusaders fell to the Tusculum Pioneers by a final score of 68-64. Turnovers told the story as NGU would committing 23 of them. Tusculum went on to score 20 points off turnovers.

1st Quarter

The first field goal came three minutes into the game, a layup by Haylee Luttrell. North Greenville would build a quick 8-2 lead before Tusculum responded with a 10-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. The quarter would come to an end with the score 15-14 in favor of the Pioneers.

2nd Quarter

Tusculum began the quarter on a strong note with a 6-0 run off of two three-pointers. The Crusaders would quickly respond with a 6-0 run of their own and eventually tie the game at 25-25. With the lead changing sides for the next several minutes, NGU would end the half with another 6-0 run to lead 35-30. North Greenville shot 46.4% from the field. Haylee Luttrell led the Crusaders in points with seven.

3rd Quarter

North Greenville was able to hang onto the lead throughout the first several minutes of the quarter, but Tusculum would tie the game at 41-41. From there, they would go on an 11-0 run to lead 52-41. However, the Crusaders did end the quarter with the final four points to cut the deficit to four points.

4th Quarter

NGU would get within one point of the Pioneers early on in the quarter, but TU would pull away yet again with a 9-0 run. North Greenville once again put up a fight to get within two points, but a final layup by Tusculum would prove to be too much to come back from. NGU continued to shoot well in the second half with a 52.2 field goal percentage. Karen Donehew led in points with ten.

Individual

Karen Donehew put up another double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. She also recorded 4 assists and 2 steals.

Bailey Breazeale had a 12-point performance as well as 4 rebounds.

Journey Muhammed posted 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

North Greenville will play its final game of 2018 on Saturday, December 29th against the Newberry Wolves in Tigerville.
