Donehew Sets Program Record in Loss to USC Aiken

Karen Donehew set a new school record with a 40-point performance in a 69-63 loss to the USC Aiken Pacers in Aiken, SC. The previous record was a 35-point game by Whitney Smith in the 2009-10 season. North Greenville led early on, but could not keep it as NGU was outscored in the second and third quarters. Donehew was the only Crusader to hit double digits in points and also led in rebounds with eight.

1st Quarter

The Pacers led early, but NGU was able to get going to even the score. Down 7-6 with six and a half minutes remaining in the quarter, North Greenville would score five points in a row to take a 11-7 lead. The Crusaders ended the quarter with a 7-3 run to take a 20-15 lead into the second quarter.

2nd Quarter

North Greenville began the quarter with the only field goal in the first two minutes, a three-pointer by Kathleen Rogers. USC Aiken would score the next six points to cut the NGU lead to two points. They would eventually tie the game at 26-26 with five and a half minutes in the quarter. The Pacers continued to carry the momentum with a 9-2 run. North Greenville scored the final three points of the half, but USC Aiken led 40-36 going into halftime. The Crusaders shot 32.4% for the half. Donehew led with 17 points.

3rd Quarter

Both teams made three-pointers to begin the third quarter. After that, the quarter turned into a struggle as only 16 points would be scored between the two teams with the Pacers scoring nine of those points to lead 49-43 at the end of the quarter. 

4th Quarter

The fourth quarter turned into the Karen Donehew show as she would score 18 of NGU's 20 points in the quarter. Unfortunately for the Crusaders, USC Aiken scored 20 points as well to end the game. North Greenville improved in the 2nd half with a 36.7 field goal percentage. Donehew again led the half in points with 23. 

Individual

Karen Donehew had a record-setting performance, scoring 40 points. She also led NGU in rebounds with 8.

Kathleen Rogers recorded 6 points and 3 rebounds.

Asia Jones scored 4 points and posted a rebound.

Upcoming

NGU will return to Hayes Gymnasium to face the Queens Royals on Tuesday, November 20th.
