Box Score Tigerville, S.C. – Matthew McManaway continued his streak of double-digit kills while NGU extended its win streak to three games with a 3-1 win over Lincoln Memorial University, Saturday afternoon in Tigerville.
The Crusaders gutted out a 25-21 victory in the opening frame to set the tone for the first two sets. A 15-14 lead for Lincoln Memorial quickly disappeared as a kill by Aaron Campbell and a Railsplitter attack error earned NGU a 16-15 lead.
The Crusaders then tacked on another kill from Grayson Lawrence and three consecutive errors from Lincoln Memorial helped North Greenville to extend the lead to 20-15. The Splitters put together a small rally to cut North Greenville’s lead to three with a 4-1 run. The Crusaders got a kill from Kyle Brandt and Matthew McManaway to move the tally to set point. The Splitters handed NGU the set win and a 1-0 lead with a service error.
Neither offense was particularly impressive in the second set but NGU used nine-errors from the Splitters to earn the win. The Crusaders jumped out to an 18-10 lead with a bad set from the Railsplitters. A kill by Aaron Campbell and a service ace from Silas Jenkins earned a 25-18 win for North Greenville in the second set.
The Railsplitters turned in their best offensive performance of the day in the third set, scattering 13-kills around just two errors. North Greenville had 11-kills but handed LMU nine-points with errors en route to a 25-18 win, cutting NGU’s lead to 2-1.
North Greenville bounced back in the third set with ITS best performance of the day. The Crusaders dished out 13-kills to just three errors to hit .400 as a team and were also the beneficiary of six LMU miscues. A kill from McManaway gave North Greenville a 12-8 lead midway through the frame. NGU got help later on with three consecutive errors from the Splitters, extending the lead to 20-15. Alexander Schinzing ended the day with an ace from the service line to win the set 25-17.
McManaway finished the afternoon with 12-kills to lead the Crusaders. Ben Hamsho finished with 10-kills. Schinzing added 31-assists and three service aces. NGU’s defense showed out, producing 14-assited blocks and two solo. McManaway led the team with four while three other players had three.
North Greenville improves to 7-11 overall with the win. The Crusaders will host Belmont Abbey at 7pm on March 9th in Hayes Gymnasium.
