Regular season comes to close with loss to Converse

Box Score

Spartanburg, S.C. – The NGU women’s soccer season came to a close on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to Converse College.

The Valkyries took the lead early on in the first half with a goal in the 9th minute. Julia Babic put Converse on top with a goal from the middle of the box, clanking it home on the far post. Megan Robertson fired what she hoped would be the equalizer in the 22nd minute but the shot was blocked by a Converse defender, sending NGU into the locker down by one.

Lindsey Tuten would do her best to give NGU its first goal of the game with a shot in the opening minute of the second half but the attempt sailed wide. The Valkyries would then take their turn as Nicole Doolittle capitalized on a pass from Alex Marquez on a breakaway to earn the 2-0 lead over the Crusaders.

Converse would take a three-goal lead later on in the half as the duo of Doolittle and Babic struck again, this time connecting on a corner kick to take a 3-0 lead over the visiting Crusaders.  NGU would do its best to work its way back into the game as Tuten fired three more shots on net but each came up short, leaving NGU scoreless as the clock counted down.

NGU keepers faced 14-shots on goal, Saturday night. Madelyn Schober finished the night with six saves while Michelle Huddleston collected four. Lindsey Tuten finished the night with five shots, one on goal, to lead the Crusaders.

North Greenville wrapped up the 2016 season with a 2-13-2 record overall and an 0-9-2 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
