Anderson, S.C.—the North Greenville Crusaders fell to the
Anderson Trojans 9-4 Monday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first two inning. The
Crusaders were the first to break through scoring one run in the third inning
when John Reinholz scored from second on an Anthony Foulk double to left field.
The Trojans broke through in the fourth inning scoring three
runs on three hits. Anderson extended its lead to 5-1in the sixth inning after
platting two runs. The Crusaders cut into the four run deficit in the seventh
inning.
The Crusaders used extra base hits from Taylor Hollifield
and Adam Taylor to score two runs on three hits. Taylor’s triple scored Brian
Giles who reached base on an RBI single, which scored Hollifield.
The Trojans once again kept the pressure on the North
Greenville offense. In the eighth inning, Anderson added four more runs on four
hits. The Trojans were aided by two NGU errors.
The Crusaders trailed 9-3 heading into the top of the last
inning. NGU threatened the comeback but the Crusaders were only able to muster
one run on two hits as the comeback fell well short.
Adam Taylor and Anthony Foulk led the offensive assault for
the Crusaders with two hits a piece, each also accounted for an RBI. Foulk also
scored a run.
The Crusaders fall to 28-12 on the season with the loss to
Anderson. NGU will have little time to reflect however as they return to the
field Wednesday for a matchup with King College at home.
