NGU capped off their weekend with a 3-0 loss to the Buckeyes of Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. After dropping the opening set by eight, the Crusaders fought hard in set two to lose by just two points before losing by six in the final set. Jackson Gilbert led in kills with 11 while Cade McGee also had a solid match with 10 kills.
The Buckeyes carried the early momentum to begin the match to lead 10-4. North Greenville fought back to go on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to three, but OSU would respond to open the lead up to seven. NGU would put up one more fight with a 3-1 run, but that was followed by a 4-1 by the Buckeyes to close out the set with a score of 25-17 in favor of the Buckeyes.
Ohio State one again got off to a strong start to begin set two, scoring six of the first seven points. However, the Crusaders would storm back to tie the set at 10-10. More momentum swings would follow, leading to another tie at 17-17. Trailing by three with Ohio State facing set point, NGU would score three points in a row to force extra points. However, the Buckeyes would put together a 3-1 run to end the set with OSU taking it 27-25.
After a 13-9 lead by Ohio State, the Crusaders responded with a 6-2 run to tie the set at 15-15. However, the Buckeyes would then put any doubt to rest by going on an 8-3 run and would go on to take the set 25-19.
NGU will face the Pioneers of Tusculum College on Friday, January 17th in Tigerville.
