After having a 2-1 advantage, the North Greenville Crusaders ultimately dropped their final match of the regular season to the Limestone Saints with a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Crusaders hold 5th place in the Conference Carolinas standing as the regular season wraps up. Jackson Gilbert led in kills with 19.
Set One (27-25 LC)
The first set of the match saw multiple momentum swings. Tied 2-2, Limestone would score three in a row to lead by three. However, three consecutive kills by Jackson Gilbert tied the set up again at 5-5. Tied several more times throughout, North Greenville finally was able to put together a run, scoring four points in a row to lead 23-18. With the Crusaders at match point, the Saints would fight back by scoring six in a row to force extra points, where they would ultimately win the opening set with a score of 27-25.
Set Two (26-24 NGU)
After NGU began on a strong note with five of the first seven points, LC responded with a 6-0 run to lead 5-8. The Crusaders then took the momentum and pulled away to lead 19-14 later on. Limestone fought back to take the lead and even reach a set point, but NGU went on to score three in a row to win 26-24.
Set Three (26-24 NGU)
North Greenville once again was able to get off to a strong start, leading 9-4 early on. The Saints came back to tie the set at 17-17. From there, the two teams would go back and forth with neither team able to lead by more than a point. Into extra points for the third straight set, the Crusaders finally put the set to rest, winning it 26-24.
Set Four (25-21 LC)
Once again, NGU led early on with a score of 6-3. After giving up the lead, the Crusaders would struggle and allow the Saints to pull away and lead by as much as seven. A late run put NGU right back into the mix, but Limestone was finally able to score the final points to take the set 25-21.
Set Five (15-9 LC)
Momentum swings were the story of the final set. After the Saints scored the first four points, the Crusaders fought right back with four straight points of their own. Afterwards, Limestone would again go on a run, scoring six of the next eight points to lead 10-6. North Greenville was able to pull within two points, but from the LC ended the set as well as the match scoring the final four points to win the set 15-9.
Jackson Gilbert put up 19 kills and 44 total attacks. He also posted 4 service aces, 4 digs, 2 solo blocks, and 2 block assists.
Cade McGee was strong as well, posting a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. He put up 41 total attacks.
Aaron Campbell recorded 14 kills on 35 attacks. He also hit the double-double mark with 10 digs as well.
NGU will play the waiting game to find out their opponent and location for the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament.
