Crusaders Put Up Fight In Thrilling Third Set, But Fall to Flyers

North Greenville began the 2019 season with a 3-0 loss to the Lewis University Flyers in Romeoville, Illinois. After struggling in the first two sets, the Crusaders put up quite a fight in set three. Extra points would be required before Lewis was finally able to end the set with a score of 39-37. Jackson Gilbert led in kills with nine.

Set 1

Things got off to a rough start for NGU as the Flyers would score the first twelve points of the set. Lewis would have no problems closing out the set as it would end with a score of 25-5.

Set 2

After trailing 2-0, North Greenville scored four of the next six points to even the score at 4-4 and would eventually lead 6-5. From there, the Flyers would begin to pull away with a 10-1 run to lead 15-7 and eventually take the set 25-13.

Set 3

Lewis took an early 3-1 lead, but the Crusaders responded with a 3-1 run of their own to tie the set at 4-4. The set would be tied four more times before the Flyers began to pull away again to lead 22-18. From there, NGU would go on a 5-1 run to tie the set yet again at 23-23. Extra points would be required. North Greenville spent the majority of extra points coming back from behind, but did claim the lead twice in extra points. The Flyers were finally able to put an end to the match with a set score of 39-37.

Individual

Jackson Gilbert recorded 9 kills and 24 total attacks.

Jake Boldog had a good start to his season with 20 assists, 4 digs, and 3 kills.

Ben Hamsho put up 6 kills and 11 total attacks.
