LANAKILA STURM OF WAIANAE, HAWAII SIGNS NCAA LETTER OF INTENT WITH NGU MVB

Lanakila Sturm, a 6-2 outside hitter from Waianae, Hawaii, has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play for the North Greenville University men’s volleyball team for the 2018-2019 season.

Sturm attends Kamehameha Kapalama High School on the island of Oahu, and plays for Coach Randy Nako.  He is a repeat starter on his high school team, and is a stellar scholar-athlete, having been named to his school’s Honor Roll numerous times.  A very well rounded community minded young man; he has participated in beach cleanups all over Oahu, and has been involved with serving food to the homeless through the Institute of Human Services (HIS).  He also has been instrumental in maintaining and restoring historic Hawaiian fishponds and natural sites on the island.

He has also had a standout career in junior club volleyball as a member of the Spike and Serve Volleyball Club.  He has played in the Boy’s Junior National Championships the last two years and his team was third overall in the open division in 2016 and 2017.

Lanakila also has been a member of the High Performance Volleyball program through USA Volleyball in Hawaii in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“Lanakila Sturm probably possesses some of the best ball handling skills of just about any player I’ve recruited for the program to date, said Crusader Head Coach Dr. Fred Battenfield.  “I met Lanakila and his father at the BJNC tournament in Dallas, and through the continued relationship, they discovered a university that was a perfect fit for highly competitive volleyball in a Christ centered university.  Lanakila will come here next year and make us even better on the court and in the classroom.  He can really hammer the ball as well and he will immediately push for a starting role next season.  I know Hawaii is a long way from South Carolina, but he does bring an incredibly positive attitude to my program that we all need.  He will join current NGU player and fellow Hawaiian Jarvis Benito (Kea’au, Hawaii) on the Crusader squad.

Lanakila is the son of Eric and Sandy Sturm, and he has a sister named Cheyenne.  He plans to major in Health Science at North Greenville, and has interests in Exercise Science, Kinesiology and Physical Therapy.

His full name is Hauolikaukaliokalanakila Ge Chong Kauweloa Sturm.
