Tigerville, SC – Luis Kannee, a 6-3 175 opposite hitter from Miami, FL, has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to attend North Greenville University on a men’s volleyball scholarship for the 2017-2018 school year, it was announced by Crusader Head Coach Dr. Fred Battenfield.
Kannee is a strong, intelligent player who was the captain of both his club and high school teams since his sophomore year. He is a three-year varsity starter for St. Brendan High School in Miami, and led his team to the district tournament twice, and was the most valuable player his junior year (his senior season is still in progress). During his sophomore year, he was the most improved player.
Luis plays for the Miami Volleyball Academy club program and is coached by Emilio Urgell at both St. Brendan and with Miami Volleyball Academy. He is originally from Venezuela, but moved to Miami when he was six years old. He has two other siblings, and also an uncle and aunt who live in Boiling Springs, SC, just 25 miles from the North Greenville campus. He is bilingual in Spanish and English, and is a stellar scholar-athlete as well, making St. Brendan’s honor roll numerous times.
“I am super excited about getting Luis to North Greenville University next fall,” Battenfield said. “We had a serious injury to our opposite hitter late this season, and I have little doubt Luis would have been able to step in and play right away. He hits a very heavy ball, and has advanced skills at the net that we need right now. He comes from a fabulous family and will be an immediate fit with our current team. He is one of the building blocks of our future team, and I know our fans will really enjoy getting to know him.
He is the son of Luis and Martha Kannee of Miami, FL.
