Offense struggles as NGU drops road match to Barton

Wilson, N.C. – North Greenville men’s volleyball struggled with second place Barton College on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Bulldogs.

The Crusaders had one of their worst performances of the season offensively, hitting just .037 as a team with 20-kills to go along with 17-errors. Matthew McManaway led the team with six kills on Saturday afternoon. Three players finished the game with four kills including Aaron Campbell, Ben Hamsho, and Grayson Lawrence.

Alexander Schinzing finished the day with 18-assists while Dustin King led the Crusaders with six digs. Four different players finished the day with one assisted block. NGU finished the day with 25-digs on defense while Barton picked up 40-digs as a team.

The Crusaders led briefly in the first set at 4-3, it would be the team’s only lead of the day as Barton gained a 5-4 edge and never looked back. The Bulldogs would go on to take the first set 25-17. The first game win set the tone for the rest of the match. Barton would go on to take a 25-20 win in the second frame followed by a dominating 25-8 win in the third to take the win.

North Greenville fell to 3-9 overall and 3-3 in league play. The Crusaders will travel to Pfeiffer University on Valentines Day to take on the Falcons at 7pm.
