NGU blanked by Cobras in non-conference volleyball

Hartsville, S.C. – North Greenville men’s volleyball took an out of conference loss on Saturday as the Coker Cobras earned a 3-0 (20-25, 22-25, 19-25) win over the Crusaders.

The Crusaders fought with the Cobras all game but lacked answers and offense. NGU hit just .238 as a team with the best showing coming in the second frame with 13-kills and just three errors. The Crusaders struggled to work past a Coker defense in the first and third sets with just 18-kills combined with nine errors.

The Cobras finished the game with five total blocks, but NGU couldn’t find the floor as Coker racked up 35-digs on 80 of NGU’s attempted spikes. Aaron Campbell continued his solid first season in Tigerville with 14-kills on the day. He was North Greenville’s only double-figure scorer.

North Greenville led a couple of times on Saturday, only to see the Cobras storm back to gain the lead. The biggest lead for the team came in the second set when a Ben Hamsho kill made the score 11-7. The advantage was short lived as the Cobras stormed back to even the score at 11-11 with four straight points. Coker would go on to take the set 25-22 putt NGU in a 2-0 hole.

The Cobras took a four-point lead midway through the third set and held NGU’s surging offense at bay. The Crusaders scored just six more points as the Cobras went on to take a 25-19 lead, after trailing early on in the set.

North Greenville is now 3-7 overall with all three wins coming against Conference Carolinas competition. The Crusaders will next travel to Mount Olive to take on the Trojans in a 7pm league matchup.
