Lake Wales, FL—North Greenville had no answers on Friday night as the Warner University Royals earned a 3-0 win over the visiting Crusaders.
The Crusaders played the Royals close but dropped consecutive sets by a score of 25-21 in the first and second while dropping the third set 25-22. The Friday night loss dropped NGU to 4-4 on the season.
Caleb Arelus and Luuga Vailu'u led the team with five kills each, assisted by Alexander Schinzing who led NGU with 18 dishes. As a team, the Crusaders had just 21 kills on 41 attempts, and hit .317.
The Crusaders never led in the first two frames, and found themselves down by as many as nine in the second frame. NGU put together a rally and pulled to within two of the Royals who pulled it out in the end scoring three of the next four points to earn a 2-0 set lead.
The Crusaders seemed to find some offensive rhythm in the third set, storming out to an 8-4 lead. The Royals then battled back to even the score at 12-12 before taking the lead with two consecutive points. NGU trailed by as many as four but once again fought back to within one as the Royals lead 22-21. The Crusaders would score once more but the Royals proved too much for the road weary Crusaders as they earned the shutout win.
NGU will have another shot at the Royals tomorrow afternoon as they wrap up a two game weekend set with a 1pm first serve.
