Due West, S.C. - North Greenville suffered just its third loss of the season on Saturday night following a 3-0 (17-25, 24-26, 13-25) defeat at the hands of Erskine College.
Luuga Vailu'u led the Crusaders with nine kills while Jon Childes finished the night with six. Childes and Matthew McManaway had a service ace each while Alexander Schinzing had 27 assists. Dustin King led NGU with eight digs on defense while Caleb Arelus and Vailu'u had two blocks each.
NGU led early in the first set but the Fleet finally found some separation as the jumped out to a 20-14 advantage. The Crusaders would close the gap to two but the Fleet would score five of the last six points to earn the 1-0 lead in the set count.
NGU looked to bounce back in the second frame and looked in control as they led 16-12, midway through the set. The Crusaders took an even bigger lead later in the set when they pushed the advantage to six points. The Fleet would post the comeback win in the end however as the Crusaders were down to Erskine 2-0.
The third set would be all Erskine as the Crusaders struggled to get anything going on offense. The Fleet jumped out to a 15-9 lead on NGU and eventually stretched it to 19-10. EC would outscore North Greenville 6-3 down the backstretch as NGU fell to the Fleet 3-0.
The Crusaders fell to 4-3 on the season after Saturday's loss with the same record in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville will welcome Lees-McRae to Hayes Gymnasium on February 9th with a first serve scheduled for 7pm.
