Wilson, N.C. - North Greenville falls to Barton College in search of first ever win in a 3-0 set win.
The Crusaders would struggle in the first set falling to the Bulldogs 25-9 win, but were able to battle back, competing with Barton in the second and third set. Freshman Curtis Westra led the team in kills with 9, while collecting 1 service ace and 1 block solo. Fellow freshman Matthew McManaway led the team in digs with 5, as well with leading in blocks with 2.
North Greenville figured its offense out in the second frame, improving by 13 points. NGU outhit the Bulldogs 11 kills to nine, but it still would not be enough as Barton would take the set 25-22.
In the third set the Crusaders would continue to challenge the Bulldogs by recording 11 kills. North Greenville would lead late in the set at 14-8, after four service errors from Barton. The Bulldogs would settle down and go on a small 3-0 run that brought them within three.
The Crusaders would handle the advantage 17-13 before a 6-0 Bulldog run would give Barton a 19-17 lead. The Crusaders would not see the lead again as the Barton Bulldogs would go on to win the 3rd set 25-21, this giving them the match victory. North Greenville's next match will be the first home conference match on January 20 against Belmont Abbey at 7:30 pm.
