Men's Volleyball To Hold First Official Practice
Tigerville, SC - One of the newest intercollegiate sports at North Greenville University, the men’s volleyball team, will hold its first official practice in the program’s history on Tuesday night from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Hayes Gymnasium.

Coach Fred Battenfield will welcome 12 players from seven states, Canada and the Philippines to the workout in preparation for the team’s first NCAA Division I season in January of 2015.

“I really don’t have any early expectations for the guys at this point,” Battenfield noted.  “They’ve been working hard in the weight room and have really gotten to know each other a lot better since they reported on August 15.  But, you’ve got to remember, I’ve got ten freshmen, a sophomore and a junior on the roster, so you have to expect a period of transition.”

Battenfield noted the team’s final fall and spring schedules are still being finalized, but he is anticipating a very fun and entertaining sport product.

“There isn’t a lot of really high level men’s volleyball in South Carolina, with the notable exceptions of NGU, Erskine and Limestone from Conference Carolinas.  We all are working hard to promote the game as a great athletic alternative to other sports.  We plan to play several top club teams in the South this fall, and we will play a full conference schedule beginning in January.”
