Three track and field athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Region honors

Tigerville, S.C. – Shekinah Wilder, Kyle Joiner, and JJ Sherman have been named All-Region performers by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their performances during the 2017 indoor track and field season.

Shekinah Wilder has been one of NGU’s most consistent and versatile performers. The sophomore participates in the triple and long jumps, while also participating in chosen track events including the women’s 4X400 meter relay.

Wilder turned in a second-place finish at the Conference Carolinas indoor championships two weeks ago, leaping 11.27-meters, earning herself a second-place finish and a spot on the All-Region team. Her performance also earned her a spot on the All-Conference team.

Kyle Joiner is one of NGU’s most improved performers this season. Joiner finished ninth last season at the indoor championships, clearing a height of 3.31-meters. The sophomore vaulter made strides in the off season and it showed at the league championships as he earned his first Conference Carolinas individual championship, clearing a height of 4.21 meters.

The first-place finish was NGU’s only championship of the weekend and secured Joiner his first All-Conference nod.

Rounding out the USTFCCCA All-Region nominations is sprinter JJ Sherman, one of North Greenville’s fastest sprinters. Sherman was honored for his performance this season in the men’s 60-meter dash. He competed in two events at the Conference Carolinas championships, but his third-place finish in the 60-meter earned him an All-Region and All-Conference nod. Sherman crossed the finish line in 6.88 seconds.

Sherman’s indoor track season is not yet complete as he will compete in the NCAA Championships on March 9-11.

Also earning a spot on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team is Sydney Hickert. Hickert competed for North Greenville in the Pole Vault, checking in with a third place finish. Hickert cleared a height of 2.80-meters to earn her spot on the podium.
