Crusaders Claim Second At Conference Championships
Winston-Salem, NC – On Sunday, Feb. 23, the North Greenville men’s track and field team put together the most impressive performance in program history that ended with a 2nd place finish in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track Championship.
In the field events, freshman Terry Davis introduced himself to fellow competitors, earning All-Conference recognition in three separate events.
The Columbia, SC native earned First Team All-Conference with a winning distance of 46’ 4.75” in the triple jump, while earning Second Team All-Conference in the high jump, clearing a height of 6’ 4.75”. Davis ended his day with a Third Team All-Conference spot in the long jump with a distance of 22’ .075”.
Fellow freshman Atonio Hipps took home third place in the triple jump with a distance of 45' 1.75" and freshman Jared Bolin earned a first place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12’ 11.5”, while senior Paul Scott (12’ 11.5”) and sophomore Jacob Carr (11’ 11.75”) claimed second and third place in the event respectively. Sophomore Kreig Lowe set a North Greenville indoor track record and a first place finish with a throw of 48’ .75” in the shot put to finish the field events.
On the track, freshman Devin Wannamaker finished first overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.9 seconds, while sophomore Ahmad Nesbitt finished third overall in the 3000 meter run with a school record time of 8:37.
The men’s Distance Medley Relay team consisting of Ben Sessions, Dominic Powell, Ravon Wamer and Nesbitt also set a school record with a time of 10:29 to claim a first place finish.
"The unity and resolve of both teams was incredible," said head coach Jake Simms. "It was very encouraging to end the indoor season to have the highest finish in program history at the conference championship. We exceeded a lot of expectations and we are not done yet."
The Crusaders will now focus on preparing for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 14-15 in Winston-Salem, NC.
