Banner Elk, NC – The North Greenville University men’s and women’s track and field team finished their inaugural season by competing in the Conference Carolinas Championship on the campus of Lees McRae College.
The women’s team finished 8th overall in the team standings and were lead by field athletes Kaitlyn Pierce and Chelsea Dyson. Pierce earned a fourth place finish in the high jump after clearing 5’ 1 ¾”, while Dyson was the team’s highest finisher with a second place finish in the pole vault after clearing a height of 8’ 6”.
On the men’s side of the competition, North Greenville finished 5th overall in the team standings, earning three individual victories and a host of Top 5 finishes.
Jared Watkins continued to be unbeatable in the high jump as he claimed the victory after clearing 6’ 6”. Freddie Martino was the Crusaders top performer as he took home two individual titles after winning both the 100 meter dash (10.84) and the 200 meter dash (21.91).
Jacob Simms finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.04, while Ravon Wamer finished in fourth place 1:58.07 and both relay teams earned third place finishes. The 4x100 meter relay team was third overall with a time of 42.43, while the 4x400 meter relay team was also third overall with a time of 3:21.14.
