Hickory, NC – The North Greenville University men’s track and field team opened the outdoor portion of the season on a strong note with many individuals securing Top 5 finishes in a number of event in the PowerSox Invitational.
In the field events, the Crusaders earned two second place finishes as Freddie Martino was a runner-up in the long jump with a flight of 21’ 11”, while Paul Scott finished second in the pole vault as he cleared 11’ 11 3/4”. In the high jump, Jared Watkins earned a third place finish after a flight of 6’ 6” and Matthew Rochester earned a ninth place finish in the discus throw with a throw of 111’ 5”.
In the track portion of the meet, Jacob Simms claimed the Crusaders only victory of the day in the 800 meter run with a winning time of 1:57.13, while Ravon Wamer was close behind with a runner-up time of 1:58.83.
Martino continued his success finishing second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.71 and Kylan Steinert earned a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.42.
The Crusaders next meet will take place on March 24 in Cullowhee, NC as they compete in the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic.
