Cedarville, OH- The North Greenville University men’s track and field team had a strong showing at the NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Cedarville University.
As a team, the Crusaders finished seventh overall out of 19 total teams with a score of 38, 102 points behind team champion Olivet Nazarene.
In the individual competitions, an army of Crusaders showed the NCCAA that the newcomers aren’t normal first-year competitors.
In the high jump, Jared Watkins and Freddie Martino each finished tied for fourth with identical flights of 6’ 1 ¼”. Martino secured North Greenville’s only individual victory of the day in the long jump with a flight of 22’ 4 ¼” good enough to claim the school record. Continuing in the field portion, Watkins finished seventh in the triple jump with a flight of 38’ 9 ½”, a personal best.
Martino continued his record day in the sprints finishing in fourth place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.54, a school record time, and a seventh place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.21.
In the distance portion of the track events, three Crusaders set personal best times. In the 800-meter run, Jacob Simms finished in second place with a school record time of 1:56.03 and Ravon Wamer brought home a sixth place finish with a time of 2:00.78. Will Belue set a personal best in the one mile run with a time of 4:44.48.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Martino, Wamer, Belue and Simms finished in third place and set a school record with a time of 3:29.28.
The Crusaders will look to carry the momentum into their first outdoor meet of the season with a meet on March 3 in the PowerSox Invitational in Hickory, NC.\
