Columbia, SC- The North Greenville University men’s track and field team began its inaugural season on a high note posting one victory and numerous Top 5 finishes on Wednesday afternoon at the Gamecock Indoor Invitational on the campus on the University of South Carolina.
Competing against the University of South Carolina, Mars Hill and Belmont Abbey among others, Jacob Simms claimed a win in the 800 yard run with a time of 2:05:61. Simms was followed closely by teammate Ravon Wamer who finished second with a time of 2:06:66.
North Greenville continued its success in the 400 yard dash as Lucus Freeman (55.88) finished in second place and Kylan Steinert (58.28) placed fourth.
In the one mile run, James Brooks brought home a second place finish after posting a time of 4:57:53. Will Belue (5:02:73) and John Shealy (5:09:81) placed fourth and fifth respectively.
In the high jump, Jared Watkins cleared 6’02 ¾ to earn a second place finish, while Justin Bishop cleared 5’08 ¾ to claim fourth place.
The Crusaders will look to continue their strong start with a trip to Clemson, SC on Friday, January 27 to compete in the Clemson Indoor Invitational.
