North Greenville Athletic Director Jan McDonald has tabbed Coach Michael Bayne as the chosen one to start the Track & Field program at North Greenville University. Coach Bayne will also assume the duties as head coach of both the men’s and women’s Cross Country teams. Both the track and field and Cross Country programs will be competing in Conference Carolinas next year.

Bayne is in his 31st year of coaching. Over his career, he has been named Coach of the Year twenty times, including six times in Track and Cross Country. His teams have won over 600 games. As the head men’s basketball coach at Garrett Tech, his team set a Guinness World Record for 32 three point baskets made in a single game. Coach Bayne’s experience includes coaching at high schools in South Carolina, and colleges including Charleston Southern University, Denmark Technical College, and Brevard College.

“I feel this is an exciting time to be at North Greenville University. I have watched this institution grow from being a junior college with less than 400 students to a NCAA division two school with over 2200 students. I feel blessed to have this opportunity.”

Bayne is a graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. He and his wife Peggy have one daughter, Nicki.
