Belmont, N.C. – NGU men’s tennis came up short against Belmont Abbey on Friday night, falling to the Crusaders from up north, 6-3.
The Crusaders won two of three doubles matches to take the early lead. An 8-6 win from Austin Schlarb and Edmundo Torres would even the score at 1-1 after a Belmont Abbey win in the one position while Jose Gomez and Sjors van Eck won 8-5.
NGU’s only win in singles play would come from van Eck who won his singles match 6-3/6-1 in the one position. Dion Nijbor fell 6-4/6-0 in the four spot while Alejandro de la Torre dropped a 7-5/6-2 decision in the two spot. Abbey clinched the win in with a third position win as Gomez fell 6-4/6-4.
Austin Schlarb dropped his singles match 6-2/6-2 while Edmundo Torres lost 6-3/3-6/11-9. The loss dropped NGU to 5-12 overall and 3-6 in league play. The Crusaders will travel to Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon for a 1pm first serve.
