Banner Elk, N.C. – North Greenville men’s tennis cruised to another conference win on Saturday afternoon downing Lees-McRae College 8-1.
The Crusaders made quick work of the Bobcats in doubles play with wins of 8-6, 8-2, and 8-0. Sjors van Eck and Edmundo Torres got things started with their win in the third spot while Jose Gomez and Will Greaves made the score 2-0. Alejandro de la Torre and Dion Nijboer rounded out the doubles play with a win in the one spot.
Greaves would carry the momentum into singles play with the first win of the day. A 6-3/6-0 victory would move NGU one step closer to the win as he improved the Crusaders to 4-0 on the day. The game clinching point came just one singles set later as Jose Gomez downed his LMC counterpart 6-1/6-4.
Sjors van Eck and Nijboer also got on the board with a pair of wins, 6-4/6-2 and 8-2 while Edmundo Torres scored the final victory of the day with an 8-5 win.
North Greenville improved to 3-5 in Conference Carolinas play after Saturday’s win.
