Tigerville, S.C. – North Greenville men’s tennis earned its first conference win of the season on Wednesday with a dominating 7-2 win over Erskine College.
The Crusaders set the tone early with a 3-0 win in double’s play. North Greenville got an 8-2 win from Alejandro de la Torre and Dion Nijbor, an 8-3 victory from William Greaves and Austin Schlarb in the second position, and a third win from Sjors van Eck and Edmundo Torres with an 8-6 decision.
Schlarb scored North Greenville’s fourth win of the day when he cruised to a 6-1/6-0 win in singles, setting up the Crusaders with a match point situation. Van Eck delivered for the Crusaders with the game clinching point from the one position as he took a 6-2/3-0 win after an opponent forfeit.
The Fleet would pick up a win in the third and fifth positions with wins of 6-3/6-1 and 6-4/6-2 over North Greenville. The Crusaders picked up two more wins from de la Torre who won 6-2/6-3 and William Greaves who won 6-1/6-6 (10-8).
The Crusaders improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. The team will be back in action on March 11th when it travels to Central South Carolina to take on Southern Wesleyan University at noon.
